Just understanding, empathy, a listening and compassionate ear — what a good mother does –because neither of them had family support in their decisions. I also still send photos and updates twice a year– after 16 years– because I will be forever grateful for these two priceless gifts.
Just let your heart lead you. It’s a stressful process for everyone but pray for the grace to give emotional support to the birthmothers, because they need it. Brave women.

Sometimes I am great at this and sometimes I fail. One thing I focus on in trying to love and support my daughter’s and son’s birth moms is remembering a something that my daughter’s birth grandfather said to her birth mom. “Honey, they love her as much as you do!” The opposite is true. She lover our daughter as much as we do. And so it’s our gratitude and respect for her tough choice that helps me show love to this special lady. I agree that pRaymer is the key. And trying to remember thete is no manual for open adoption so just go with the flow. Sometimes it is really hard and sometimes it’s really easy. But always it is what feels right. Part of my kids would be missing if I didn’t have the gift of open adoption in their lives!
