Catholic Gifts for Boys that are Helpful, Meaningful and Fun!

I have two sons, and I want them to absolutely love Jesus and their Catholic Faith.  I feel like that faith will help them no matter what they go through in life, and I truly believe that God created both of them on purpose for a purpose.

One gift I know we can all give our children is our example.

If we practice our faith and use it as a guide through tough times and suffering as well as celebrate the Feasts with great joy, our children will remember that.

However, I also know . . .

I am not a saint.  I lack patience.  I yell.  I miss the mark.

So yes, my example as a parent is important.  However, I need help.

Finding ways that are unique and fun are also important.

Catholic Prayer Aides that Embrace Movement

It’s no secret that boys love to move and staying still is a challenge.

When I saw this Rosary blanket, I immediately got excited.

This could be one of the greatest ideas I had seen in a long time.
We all know kids have trouble being still.

My 7 year old son is not an exception. In fact, he is the rule.
He can not stay still. Ever.

3 Unique First Holy Communion Gift Ideas for Boys

If you also want to give your son a traditional Rosary – our family favorite are Rugged Rosaries’ WWI Battle Beads!

Something not as common as Rosaries that young boys seem to like are Sacrifice Beads.

Sacrifice beads are loved by Sara Estabrooks’ oldest son (author of Becoming Holy One Virtue at a Time) as well as the son of  Theresa Conlan, creator of these beads and owner of Happy Nest Home Goods.

Boys like to keep the beads in their pockets and each time they offer something up (holding his tongue, stubbing his toe, emptying the dishwasher, etc.),

they move a bead towards the Crucifix.

This beautiful practice helps foster the ability to see opportunities to offer every moment to God.

Catholic Toys

One Christmas our oldest received a Mass kit from Almond Rod Toys.

He played with it often!  It made me so happy to see him playing Mass!

I’m pretty sure his favorite part was the bell.  He loved to start a whole entrance procession when he played with his kit!

Another suggestion is from a fellow Catholic friend- Blogger and YouTuber- Jennifer Lirette (Surprised by Marriage).  Her sons love this Lego set:

Father Leopold Celebrates Mass

Featuring 171 genuine LEGO® bricks, three modified bricks (his Roman collar, the sacramentary and the lectionary were printed after they left the factory) and a set of four vestments (a green chasuble for Ordinary Time, red and white for feast days, and purple for Advent and Lent) this set will provide hours of imaginative play.

Catholic Books that Boys Love

My 8 year old son loves the book Heavenly Hosts: Eucharistic Miracles for Kids.  This book was recommended for First Holy Communion preparation, and I have to admit, I wanted to hear the miracle stories myself as well.

After we read the book together, I noticed our 8 year old son was reading it to our 3 year old son after bedtime!

I would also add that our son who just turned 8 really enjoys the Prince Martin books.  I ordered him one, he read it in one sitting!  And when I ordered him a second he literally jumped for joy!

Our 3 year old son requests that I read several Saint stories from The Lives of the Saints every night.  The illustrations are beautiful and he loves the Saint Joseph holding baby Jesus picture.

He also loves Saints on the Go!

As for the pre-teen/tween and young teen crowd, I’m excited to introduce to you Be Yourself: A Journal for Catholic Boys!

Be Yourself: A Journal for Catholic Boys was designed for boys to understand their identity and individuality, with the help of their Catholic faith.

Packed full of great art, quizzes, journaling questions, quotes from the saints, Scripture verses, and passages from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Be Yourself journal helps boys become the men God created them to be.

Katie Bogner, from Look to Him and Be Radiant, recommends the new Boy’s Journal:

I’ve gotten to view the inside pages and it is awesome! I actually might like it even better than the girls version… which is a hard thing to do! Creating a journal for a tween/teen boy is no easy task, but Amy has done it in a way that is masculine, adventurous, and fun while still creating an invitation for prayer and reflection. The pages are filled with quotes, challenges, spaces to write or create (like with mud, for example!), and guides for prayer.

John Kinuthia, the Catholic Speaker, says:

“I love how interactive it is! Engaging the heart, the mind, and body.”

These are just a few ideas for the young Catholic boys in your life.
