I love an inspiring quote.
A few years ago I heard this quote attributed to Saint Catherine of Siena:
Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire
I loved it the minute I heard it. I then changed it into a prayer:
1. Dear God, help me to be who you want me to be and set the world on fire!”
Since I began praying this prayer I’ve:
published a book;
started a small business;
organized an international retreat/conference (with help, but still);
and
became a mother to 2 more children.
All of this happened in less than 3 years.
So if you are:
Searching for Big answers?
Desiring a huge change?
Just wondering what God wants you to do and if you are doing it?
I encourage you to pray that prayer and hold on!
Since this prayer made a huge impact on my life, I started thinking about how the wisdom of other saints might provide inspiration fro more great prayers.
More than once I have read the words of a saint and thought, wow – they were really good people.
I’m not that good.
But now I think, well nothing is impossible for God, right? He can help me be that good – so why don’t I ask?
Plus, I firmly believe that true peace and joy come from God.
These saints “got that”. So when I see the wisdom of the saints and feel as though I could use an ounce of their faith, I take a moment and ask God for help.
One quote that inspires me to find joy in my daily life is from Saint Gianna Molla. Her words:
The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for all that He, in His goodness, sends to us day after day.”
My weaknesses shine through in everyday life. I’m often tired – and that makes me not so patient and a little bit grumpy. This quote inspires me to pray,
2. “Dear Lord Jesus, help me to find joy in today’s moments and desire to thank you more often; remembering each breath and person is a gift!”
I made sure I added “remembering each breath is a gift” because when I met Saint Gianna’s daughter, Gianna Emmanuela, she said to me, “I thank God for every breath I take!!!”

And because there could always be more fun in our lives, I absolutely love this Padre Pio quote:
Serve God with laughter.”
3. “Lord God, help me to serve you with laughter!”

So simple, but so awesome! Padre Pio loved God with such self abandonment, yet he makes our faith accessible with guidance and direction. His words, “Pray, Hope and Don’t Worry” is probably my favorite saint quote.
4. “Lord, help me to pray, hope and not to worry! Amen”

For those of us who are married, we know it’s not a fairy tale. Married love requires prayer and work 🙂

One of my favorite saints lately is Saint Zelie’ Martin. She wrote about how much she loved her husband in a letter to her brother and it struck me profoundly:
“I’m always so happy with him, he makes my life very pleasant. What a holy man my husband is. I wish the same for all women; that’s my wish for them for the New Year.” Saint Zelie Martin, telling her brother how much she loves her husband in a letter dated January 1, 1863.
I changed these words of hers into this prayer for her intercession:
5. “Saint Zelie’! Please pray for my marriage! Pray that I love my husband and always feel happy with him! Pray that we laugh together often! Saint Louis Martin, please pray for my husband and I to be happier every day! Amen”
I wrote about a personal experience with this prayer here: 10 Years of Marriage and the Saints that Helped Us Get Here
What is your favorite quote? How could that be re-worded into a prayer?
