Prayer, Juice, and Skittles: Faith books for Littles

Lent is really a season that is more for adults than a child in preschool.  However, as I journey on in this holy season, I often find that my faith can feel refreshed when looking through the eyes of a child.  Although young children may not be able to grasp fully the Passion of Our Lord, they can certainly grasp loving God, being loved by Him and the concept of heaven.  Here are some books to share with your child during Lent or even in their Easter baskets!

Prayer, Juice, Skittles- Faith Based Books for Littles

1. Heaven is For Real for Kids

I loved the adult version of this book!  I look forward to sharing Colton’s story with my son!

2. Caleb’s Colt

My son picked this out of his school library.  I love the angle it takes to tell the story of Palm Sunday! He couldn’t sit through the whole book, but when he walked away I finished reading it myself!

3. Paddy and the Wolves: A Story about Saint Patrick

This is a new book about Saint Patrick!  It’s about a boy that can’t sit still during prayers!  I know one of those quite well!

Screen Shot 2017-03-03 at 11.15.26 AM

4.  The Little Flower: A Parable of Saint Therese’

St. Therese’, as a young girl, wants to do things her big sisters and older people do in order to show how much they love God. Therese’ wants to do lots of things, but, unfortunately, she is just “not old enough”. Most children have had this desire and because of that they will immediately connect with the story. Read more about this book here: Beautiful Little Flowers: The Little Flower Book Review

5. Dear Pope Francis: The Pope Answers Letters from Children Around the World

So cute and a great reference book!

Screen Shot 2017-03-14 at 4.33.09 PM.png

6. Why Am I Here?

This book was written by Matthew Kelly.  Since I can’t put down his book Resisting Happiness, and can’t help but recommend a child’s book by him as well!

7. A Child’s Book of the Mass

I have just recently been introduced to the Catechisis of the Good Shepherd and I am so interested in it! I am hoping to get my son enrolled in a class around our home next year.  One of the pioneers of the Catechisis of the Good Shepherd in the Philadelphia area wrote this book!  I bought it for our son and recommend it!

8. God’s Wisdom for Little Boys:Character Building Fun from the Proverbs

I love this new book – especially since it rhymes!  There is something about books that rhyme that catch my son’s attention more and have him wanting to hear it again and again!  There is also a volume for little girls: God’s Wisdom for Little Girls!

9. The Littlest Angel

Although this is a Christmas book, it is still a great story!

10. My First Taggies Book: Thank You Prayer

My friend and fellow blogger, Brittany (Everyday Thoughts) recommends this book.  She reviewed it and since then has given it as gift!

12. You Are Special

I have heard that everything by the author is great!

“I can’t go this year, but next year I hope to “I can’t go this year, but next year I hope to!”

I hear this every year when I’m planning the Prayer Wine Chocolate Retreat.

And every year I think…” I don’t know if I’ll be able to do this again next year.”

Each year- each day- is a gift.
Getting to plan a retreat for women that truly serves their minds, their souls and their hearts is truly a gift.
But the truth is, I never know if I’ll be given this gift again.

Jesus reminds us all in the Gospels that we all really don’t know what will happen in the future.
I don’t know what next year will bring…

But I do know that when women attend a Prayer Wine Chocolate Retreat for a day, they say things like

“I needed this”
“I would have paid you more”
“It’s like Christmas for Moms”

I understand life is busy. I feel strongly that the busyness is a distraction from the stillness Our Lord is calling us to.

If you really can’t attend this year’s Prayer Wine Chocolate Retreat, may I make a suggestion?

Get out your calendar and schedule a day to go to confession,
A day to go to Mass that is not Sunday,
A day to get together with someone else to pray the Rosary out loud and a day to spend time with another woman that needs your prayers.

All of these things are available on November 15th.
There’s still time to register!

If you want to join us this year, comment “Register “ and I’ll send you the details.

If you definitely can’t make it, drop a prayer intention in the comments- or message me- and we will bring your intentions with us!

“We should start our own Rosary group” is what “We should start our own Rosary group” is what my friend here, Nancy, suggested over two decades ago.

We were at her Mom’s friend’s house, where generations of women and their children had gathered for the Rosary. Apparently this was something they had done together for years.

I was so grateful Nancy suggested this! I had always wanted friends to pray with.
And so we started… 4 young women with different intentions and heartaches. 4 young women who had hope that prayers do get answered.

We often invited other friends too.
Someone would bring wine. Someone would bring food. Often it was chocolate.

Years past. Prayers have been answered.
Unexpected crosses have been carried.
This prayer group was a light in the darkness for me.

Because Nancy suggested we start a Rosary group, prayer wine Chocolate came to be…

Don’t hesitate to turn your GNO into a Rosary night.
We highly recommend it.

I don’t believe in accidents. I was thinking abo I don’t believe in accidents.
I was thinking about posting this prayer and I got a call from “Peoria, Illinois “.
For those of you wondering why that means anything… that where Archbishop Fulton Sheen grew up. Fulton Sheen wrote this prayer!

I never answer calls from random places but I couldn’t help it. I answered it.

I said hello… and heard nothing.
I waited… still nothing.
No voice. No recording. No dial tone.

So I hung up and now I’m posting this.

Type MIRACLE OR PRAYER in the comments and I’ll send you the link for the download.
